Beethoven

Ludwig van Beethoven is the greatest son of the city of Bonn, which feels intensely connected to the world-famous composer to this day. He was born in Bonn in 1770 and spent the first 22 years of his life here.

The house where he was born, Bonngasse 20, is only a 15-minute walk from our Hotel Kurfürstenhof and today houses the largest Beethoven collection in the world. Since the Beethoven anniversary year, it has presented a new, spatially expanded permanent exhibition. The Beethoven House is the only surviving family home and is largely in its original condition.

This is also the starting point for the new Beethoven tour, which leads to the 11 important stations in Ludwig van Beethoven’s life in Bonn. Newly designed information pillars provide insights into Beethoven’s life and work during his years in Bonn in written, visual and audio form.

Every September, the Beethovenfest presents around 70 concerts by top international orchestras, important ensembles and renowned soloists in over 20 venues in Bonn and the surrounding area.

The Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and its General Music Director Dirk Kaftan promise extraordinary concert experiences all year round. The orchestra offers numerous concerts and opera performances at the highest level.
